Urban Art at Hesters Way Centre

We’ve just commissioned some urban art at Hesters Way!

Just days after the end of the fantastic Cheltenham Paint Festival, HWP were offered the artist Samer to paint on the wall at Hesters Way Community Resource Centre. His work in Cheltenham includes the “gannets” adjacent to Woody’s veg stall on the High Street from 2018 and the “cat” on Albion Street form the 2019 festival.

Flower Bird was completed on September 12th and we hope you’ll agree adds a superb new perspective to the centre.

The art work in KGV is now complete, the grass settle in over the summer but the seating can now be used. A plaque will be attached to the sleepers describing the work and how the sound mirrors work ready for the opening event which is proposed for Friday 13th September at 3pm.

All welcome.

Easter Urban Art Project

Local young people enjoyed the urban art project over the Easter holidays helping artist Slaz (AKA Tim Martin) to create this fantastic mural at the Oasis Centre.

The design was inspired by ideas generated in the workshops in the centre and reimagined on a large scale on boarding attached to the adjacent fencing.

The young people learned about drawing letters and 3D effects as well as the difficult skill of working with spray paints. They were even given their own practice boards to take home.

Thanks go to The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire and Bence for their sponsorship of the project

THE DRAGON

The piece of artwork here known as the Dragon was designed by Rob Olins, from Coleford in the Forest of Dean. Rob held workshops at the Hesters Way Library, Rowanfield Junior School and at the Easter Eggstravaganza 2017 at which people could work with him to come up with ideas for the piece.

OPENING

The design is now finished and installation of two sound mirrors, a series of sleeper benches and linked paths is nearly complete.

The landscaping has been complemented by tree and wildflower planting.

The fencing will be removed once the seeds have germinated when everyone will be welcome to enjoy the new installation.

Easter Sports Drop In and Graffiti Project

A Sports Drop-In and Graffitis project sponsored by The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire will take place over the Easter holidays when artist Tim Martin will run workshops to produce a piece of urban art on panels attached to the nearby fence. There will also be a sports coaching project at the MUGA running at the same time.

Oasis will be the hub of further activities for young people over the holidays so look out for exciting arts and crafts and food opportunities too. Its all action over Easter in the West of Cheltenham!
